ABOUT THE RIVERSIDE CHURCH

The Riverside Church, located in the Morningside Heights section of Upper Manhattan, is a church where worship and faith fuel social action.  Riverside was founded in 1930, as an interdenominational, interracial, and international faith institution committed to working for justice in the world.  Since the Church’s inception, its activities have extended far past its glorious walls, and served the community at large. During the Depression, Riverside Church initiated an impressive work program that employed nearly 1,500 people.  In the 1940s and 1950s, the Church helped thousands of refugees settle in New York.  The 1960s marked the beginning of Riverside’s community-based social service programs. The Church’s food and clothing ministries have thrived since the 1970s. Today, The Riverside Church’s community-based initiatives include: The Food Pantry, Barber Training, Clothing Closet, Eviction Prevention, Showers & Laundry services for Unsheltered men & women, and a Safe Haven (emergency bed program).

ABOUT THE RIVERSIDE CHURCH SOCIAL SERVICES CLOTHING DRIVE

The Riverside Church Social Services Program is designed to respond to the physical needs of our neighbors who may be lacking the basic subsistence of life by offering efficient, effective, and comprehensive delivery of food, shelter, clothing, and support services to persons in need.

Riverside's Clothing Distribution (Closet) provides clothing, footwear, winter coats, business and professional attire, bedding, and small household items to individuals in need.  Last year, the Ministry provided 7,657 people with free clothing.

The generosity of donors makes it possible to conduct our semiannual clothing drives, which help to support and sustain the social services programs throughout the year. In these unprecedented times, as we all adjust our lives, the Riverside Church Clothing Drive has moved online. Explore our shop and please support the ongoing work of our social services programs.
